Vacation in a jar – A Cute Way to Bring Your Latest Trip Home!

Hello again, it’s been a while! Today, I want to share a lovely idea to make your home feel cozier while keeping your travel memories alive. It’s not exactly a new concept, but it’s definitely something worth having – a vacation in a jar!

As you can see in the photo above, this jar is filled with little treasures from the Baltic Sea on the German coast. While walking along the beach last autumn, I picked up some seashells and thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice to keep these as a memory?” So, I collected a few shells, along with some dried lemon grass, other local flora, and, of course, a bit of sand.

If you want to create your own vacation jar, be mindful and leave the most beautiful shells behind so others can enjoy finding them too. ( ˙▿˙ )

These small natural decorations look beautiful at home, especially paired with incense sticks or other coastal-inspired decor.

All in all, it’s a fun and meaningful DIY project that also makes a great gift! My grandma loved hers, and to this day, I still haven’t seen a speck of dust on it. (´︶`)

Lone Bike Ride Through the Countryside and some Photography

Yesterday, I went on a bike ride through the countryside of Germany and took my vintage digital camera with me for some photography sessions. But one thought struck me: Where is everyone? Sure, it wasn’t the best weather for a ride—cold, gloomy, and windy—but still, I hardly see anyone outside these days. Fewer and fewer people seem to go for a simple walk or ride their bike in the countryside. It’s rare to even see someone exercising there. Maybe it’s just my perception playing tricks on me, because in town, the streets are always full of people.

With no one around, at least I spotted some crows searching for food in a crop field. There were three of them just picking something from the ground. One of them noticed me, flew onto a street sign, and just stood there. I took the chance to capture this majestic moment, and above you can see the result. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

As I rode along, I even saw the making of tea bags—isn’t nature just beautiful?

Anyway, I kept riding—but not too far, since I had something to take care of. I even saw an old tower on my way. You can see this photo on my portfolio. Then, on my left, I noticed a small clearing by the side path. Curiosity got the better of me, so I pushed my bike through the uneven ground and past a few obstacles. What greeted me was a glimpse of early spring and a nice view of the countryside.

Would you look at that! I think I’ll head into the woods today to do more countryside or general photography sessions and use the opportunity for some training. Road bikes are awesome for this—though, to be fair, I don’t really use mine for smooth roads… or roads in general. ( ̄ω ̄)

Why Red is Special

When someone asks me what my favorite color is, I always say that every color is my favorite. Why? Because you can take any scene and make one particular color stand out, turning it into the striking centerpiece. But when it comes to natural photography, I often find red the most fascinating. It’s such a bold and rich color, like the ground that the flower in the featured image is resting on.

Or take this photo of bird berries I captured:

Mixed with the vintage style of my digital camera, it just feels so… right. Like a dream—almost like a screenshot of a fleeting moment in that dream. I took this photo during a bike trip, and I immediately stopped—not particularly because of the berries themselves but because something about that red caught my eye. It was so vibrant, so special. I took the shot, and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Spring is just around the corner, and I wonder… will my favorite color change then?

Here’s another photo of those berries:

Another Angle of those Red Berries

I love the lightning in this one. Whenever I go on bike rides, my camera is always with me. It’s a perfect way to combine exercise with creativity. As I cycle, the world rushes past like a living painting, but every now and then, something catches my eye—maybe it’s the way the light hits a tree or the unexpected contrast of colors in a flowerbed. I stop, observe, and let the moment sink in. These fleeting scenes remind me how beautiful the world can be, even in its smallest details. It’s these moments that make photography so rewarding, like freezing a little piece of magic in time.

Please also go outside and make photos of your findings, what is your favourite color?

House plant

When decorating your house or apartment, you might ask yourself: “Why does it feel so bleak?” I spent hours looking at interior designs online, but they all seemed too… perfect. Too tidy, too artificial. Then one day, I decided to step outside and ended up in a garden center. The air inside was fresh, earthy, and alive. That’s when I thought: “Why not bring a little of this freshness into my home?”
So, I bought the house plant you see above. It’s been hanging above my bed, right in front of my window, ever since. And you know what? I love it. Its leaves have stayed vibrant and healthy, even now, in the dead of winter.

I’m really happy with how the photo turned out. The green is so vivid, and the contrast with the background feels perfect. A bare tree stands quietly in the cold winter, while this house plant thrives, bringing life and color into my apartment.

Another angle:

Even though my camera is pretty old, I was surprised at how well this shot turned out. It got me thinking—does nature even have imperfections? Is asymmetry an imperfection? If you keep zooming in, all the way to the atomic level, everything seems perfectly ordered. To me, that’s beautiful.

This photo also reminds me of the cycle of seasons. Look at the background: the tree has shed its leaves, while in the foreground, the house plant’s green shines brightly. One day, even this plant might lose its leaves. But if you imagine this image looping infinitely—tree, plant, tree, plant—it’s like a cycle of life captured in one frame.

How many photos will I take? How many seasons will come and go? I don’t have the answers, but I do know this: keeping a little piece of nature where you spend most of your time can make all the difference. It’s a small thing, but it can change the way you feel about your space—and maybe even about life.

Starting my photography journey

Hello, welcome again to my blog and to the beginning of my photography journey. This is my first post and is about my thoughts wandering in the night and discovering the beauty of photography as a whole.

This photo above was one of my first photos on my Olympus C-750. I was outside and eager to capture something in the night. I just couldn’t wait till morning to try this camera out! You know that feeling, when you’re moving too fast in life? Have a sudden thought and in the next moment you’re waiting on a delivery. Maybe this hobby was an impulsive decision, but I enjoyed every second of that night.

I can’t quite remember what settings I used to make the photo above, but I focused on the berries on our nightwalk through the viewfinder I think it’s called. Then I clicked on the shutter release, but nothing happened. After a few moments there was a flash, then I saw the photo I just shot. It was more beautiful than I initially thought, that’s why I want to feature it on this blog entry.

It looks like something out of a fantasy world, with fire magic flowing around us and also straight out of a dream. That was the photo where I decided to go further on my journey to share this nostalgic feeling of 2000’s Photographs.

Beauty, vibes and dreams

I then walked further and made more photos but couldn’t quite capture the photos I wanted. I can’t quite explain it, they should have a “vibe”. But beauty is everywhere, when we walk down a street, I realized that we need to “see” more. Not just seeing the things and go on with our day. Look beside your device you’re reading this post from. Is there a wall? What is on the wall? Is it white and not even? I then think of a snowy landscape with many hills and mountains. That is when we see beauty in things and not just only seeing things. Having the heart and mind togehter helps appreciating the world more.

But anyway, because I had this thought on my nightwalk I then captured this photo:

Streetlamp in the night, shot with my Olympus C-750
A second of a walk

It’s not that special is it? But to me it is. If I look at this photo I think that someone walks home, is tired from work, and looks up to the street light. In the next moment they are home. But this second where this person is looking at this street light is a glimpse of someones life. Maybe also a glimpse of someones dream. It sure looks to me like that.

Maybe I just wanted to see what happens, when I make a photo of a street lamp in the night, but isn’t it impossible to only have one thought at the same time? Have you multiple thoughts at the same time? Write down a comment, what you think, what you feel, when you’re engaging in this hobby. What you think about your or my thoughts? Please also check out my other blog entries. Thank you for reading, hope you all have a nice day.
